As the summer winds down and we get ready for down coats and snow shovels again I’d thought I’d post something from the beach. Gabriela is a model who makes a living promoting brands and products at various events throughout the tri-state area. It’s important for her to maintain a current portfolio and we get together once a year for a shoot. This year we decided to do a swim wear shoot in Long Beach on Long Island. Let’s hope September is a warm summery one for 2010!!!

I got to meet my 1st cousin for the 1st time this past week. It wasn’t my first time meeting her at the age of 33 because she lived in some far away place. It was the first time because she was just born!!! I really enjoy photographing babies especially newborns. It was even more special welcoming someone new into the family. Congratulations Jen and Uncle Paul!
I have always photographed all babies in what as known as an environmental style. This means that I photograph baby in their home and nursery with mommy and daddy in a photojournalistic approach. I will continue to do this style - EXCEPT for newborns. In the first week of life babies spend most of the time sleeping and are very poseable and cooperative. Kate is 14 days old here and spent most of the shoot nursing and I spent some time cleaning and changing blankets. I learned a lesson that first 7 days of life is key in this style of shooting. I’m going to be taking advantage of this and shoot babies in all of the poses that makes everyone say AWWWWWWWWW. Babies in baskets and buckets. Babies in stork wraps. Babies with cute little knit hats etc. I have spent some time this summer collecting all of this stuff and have intricate knowledge of the baby and blanket sections of several retailers. Yes I have an Etsy account now also. I also have a gigantic beanbag made especially for posing newborns and I even got a tiny space heater for keeping the little ones snug and comfy.
I have some newborn shoots set up with some mommies to be but I want some more. So I’m running a special on newborn shoots! A sitting with a newborn in the first week of life is now only $150. Included is photography, editing, an online gallery with print ordering, and a web resolution DVD. Michelle called and told me that she wanted to get her sister Debbie a thoughtful and timeless gift for her 10 year anniversary to John. So she did. It was a photography session by yours truly. It’s flattering to be hired as a gift I must say! The session started off with baby Addison and Matthew getting in on the fun. Grandma showed up to get the kids and we then took some beautiful anniversary portraits overlooking the Long Island Sound. The big news this week is that Debbie is expecting a 3rd baby in February! Congrats!!!
